The Learning Institutes are half or full-day courses prior to the APHA Annual Meeting and Expo that give learners the chance to participate in a more intense and interactive educational experience. STAR's interactive session, Global Health Landscape: Mega-Trends Then and Now, will set the larger context of the global health industry, including emerging needs and the challenges of implementation. The need for strong partnerships and techniques to foster these connections will also be discussed. Participants will also be exposed to the role donors play in the global public health arena. During this session there will be a facilitated discussion based on the responses from the self-assessments students conducted earlier in the program. This exercise will help to anchor any key points from the discussion as it relates to building individual and collective capacity to respond to global health concerns. Overall, this presentation will uncover how the full cycle of design, implementation, evaluation and the related concepts make for an effective strategy to strengthen public health systems globally.
